Deep in the lakes and streams of the Sternberg region, you will find Hasenwinkel Castle. Built in 1909 in the neo-baroque style, it is a gem of Mecklenburg tradition with rural but stately presence. In the midst of untouched nature, easily accessible between Wismar and Schwerin, this castle hotel is an example of the fusion of tradition and comfort.<\/p>\n

Hasenwinkel Castle is always worth a visit, may it be for a meeting, a cultural event, a wedding or simply a calm vacation. The castle hotel is a masterpiece of the renowned Mecklenburg architects Paul Korf and Richard Habich. To honour their work, the new owners carefully renovated it, preserving every historic detail of this piece of art and history.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

1909 - 1948<\/h2><\/div>

  • The German-Russian diplomat and businessman Wladimir Schmitz commissions the construction of a neo-baroque manor house in Hasenwinkel. While the castle was designed and built by the renowned Mecklenburg architect Paul Korff, the castle grounds were created by Richard Habich<\/li>\n
  • In the Summer of 1912, the building was inaugurated.<\/li>\n
  • In 1929, Kurt Girardet, the heir to a Dynasty of publishers hailing from the Rhineland, purchases the house and takes up residence.<\/li>\n
  • Towards the end of world war 2, the castle is taken by the soviet army and used as headquarters and then as a refugee camp.<\/li>\n
  • After the renovations in 1948, a new future for the castle is found. It is first used as the school for state administration and then as the technical school for political sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      1970 - 1999<\/h2><\/div>

      • Schwerin city council founds the academy for socialistic economical leadership in Hasenwinkel. The castle is used as a youth camp during the summer months.<\/li>\n
      • The Castle and park are declared a cultural heritage management.<\/li>\n
      • Founded under the leadership of Nordmetall, the educational organisation of economy Mecklenburg-Vorpommern begins its work in Hasenwinkel.<\/li>\n
      • The Nordmetall Union of metal and electrical worker acquires Hasenwinkel Castle. Extensive renovations as well of the new construction of a guesthouse and the restoration of the park begin.<\/li>\n
      • The 2nd April 1996 Hasenwinkel Castle is reopened as a conference Hotel.<\/li>\n
      • On the 1st of January 1999 Business conference hotel “Schloss Hasenwinkel” takes over management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          2002 - 2007<\/h2><\/div>

          • Hasenwinkel Castle is listed as one of the TOP TEN conference hotels in Germany and is awarded the prestigious award for professional conference services.<\/li>\n
          • The rediscovered original layout of the castle gardens makes it possible to restore the original state.<\/li>\n
          • The historic fountain is finished and enriches the gardens as from August.<\/li>\n
          • In 2006, the stables are restored and rebuilt with a restaurant, a Bar, a fireplace and 4 additional apartments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>

            The \u201cFestspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern\u201d host the children and family festival at Hasenwinkel Castle. This interactive event, which has become tradition by now, is not merely a musical festival but stands for children and adults discovering and experiencing the world together.<\/p>\n<\/div>

            2020 - 2021<\/h2><\/div>

            The Corona pandemic led to a partial closing of the premises. This time was well used for extensive renovations and improvements in the castle. New baths, comfortable, historic but up to date castle rooms as well as state of the art meeting rooms are now part of the castle with its reopening in 2021. <\/div>\n
